How to start your Pocket Bike without breaking the recoil starter at first use:

1) To start the Pocket Bike, especially when the engine is cold, pull a few taps on the handle to bring the piston up into its sleeve.

2) Pull sharply on the cord without pulling to the end of it. This will prevent breaking the cord or wresting a part of the recoil starter.

The engine of a Pocket Bike rarely starts on the first try. If you pull on the cord when the piston goes down you are likely to reach the position of highest compression when reaching the end of the cord. This is a sure way to break the recoil starter rapidly.
